South Africa Trip October/November 2013 part 10
In the morning, the kudu were still there. We were packed and out at 4:30 for the drive south to our last night in Kruger. It was raining off and on, so a quiet morning. 6 hyena were the only good sighting
A Burchell's coucal called the rain near Tshokwane
Nearing Skukuza, the general game reappeared - giraffe, wildebeest, impala, zebra. Some bushbuck posed near the river
And a crocodile and hadeda ibis shared a sandbar
After lunch at Lower Sabie we headed to Biyamiti, with a buffalo carcass along the road
We like chalet #3
although vervet monkeys stole some rusks
There were also bushbuck and francolin in camp
Heading back out, we found a rhino in the riverbed
a drongo pestering a raptor
a beautiful kudu
rhino at the weir
and a wattled plover
followed by 3 more rhino
Our last morning in Kruger, we did an early loop, seeing several more rhino
Wahlberg's eagles
young crocodile
fish
monkeys
lilac breasted roller
and a posing dwarf mongoose

before returning for lunch and packing. We headed up the S126, with elephant
and lilies
and redbill hornbill
I had never been to Transport Dam, so we took a detour there - plenty of general game, and some flowers
We headed back east, but then someone told us of some lions 1-2 km further west so we turned around and found 3 females
Then it was S65 and the Kruger gate, with one sighting of European bee eater (true last sighting was impala and zebra)
